You&#8217;re not supposed to be here unless you&#8217;re moving. <\/p>\n<p class=\"bullet10\" style=\"margin-top:8px;\">\u2022 <b>Don&#8217;t<\/b> just run over pedestrians at a crosswalk or keep driving no matter what. You should still stop to obey other traffic signs and signals. If police tell you to stop, you must still stop despite the sign. <\/p>\n<p class=\"bullet10\" style=\"margin-top:8px;\">\u2022 In some cities, these signs are invalidated on &#8220;major legal holidays.&#8221; Unless you&#8217;re doing something dangerous, you shouldn&#8217;t be ticketed for violating this sign on New Year&#8217;s Day, Memorial Day, the 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, or Christmas. <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"col-md-4\">\n<div style=\"border: 1px solid rgb(209, 198, 198); padding:10px 10px 0px 10px; border-radius:8px; min-height:664px;\">\n<div> <a href=\"\/parking-signs\/no-stopping-signs \"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/img\/md\/K\/No-Standing-Anytime-Parking-Sign-K-2666.gif\" class=\"img-fluid mx-auto d-block\"><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"border:1px solid \n#cccccc; text-align:center; margin:10px 0px 10px 0px; background-color:\n#f5f5f5;\"> <b>No standing signs<\/b> <\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 12px; padding:10px 12px 0px 10px;\">\n<div class=\"body3x\">\n<p class=\"bullet10\">\u2022 <b>No standing signs<\/b> usually mean you can drop people off or pick them up, but you still can&#8217;t load or unload things from cars or trucks.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"bullet10\" style=\"margin-top:8px;\">\u2022 These signs really mean not a <em>loading zone<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"bullet10\" style=\"margin-top:8px;\">\u2022 In most cities, a No Standing sign means you can stop and wait, as long as the driver stays behind the wheel (and in some places, the car must keep running). <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-md-4\" >\n<div style=\"border: 1px solid rgb(209, 198, 198); padding:10px 10px 0px 10px; border-radius:8px; min-height:664px;\">\n<div> <a href=\"\/no-parking-signs\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/img\/md\/K\/no-parking-anytime-aluminum-sign-k-2331.png\" class=\"img-fluid mx-auto d-block\"><\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"border:1px solid \n#cccccc; text-align:center; margin:10px 0px 10px 0px; background-color:\n#f5f5f5;\"> <b>No parking signs<\/b> <\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 12px; padding:10px 12px 0px 10px;\">\n<div class=\"body3x\">\n<p class=\"bullet10\">\u2022 In most cities, <b>no parking signs<\/b> ironically mean you can stop the car, and you can load or unload people and goods, but you can&#8217;t leave the car alone. (Check out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilga.gov\/legislation\/ilcs\/fulltext.asp?DocName=062500050K11-1303\" target=\"_blank\">an example of these laws<\/a> in Illinois.) <\/p>\n<p class=\"bullet10\" style=\"margin-top:8px;\">\u2022 As ever, if police tell you to move along, you&#8217;re responsible for complying with their request no matter what signs tell you to do &#8211; police overrule traffic signs. <\/p>\n<p class=\"bullet10\" style=\"margin-top:8px;\">\u2022 No parking signs rely on the distinction between parking and stopping. <a href=\"https:\/\/leginfo.legislature.ca.gov\/faces\/codesTOCSelected.xhtml?tocCode=VEH&#038;tocTitle=+Vehicle+Code+-+VEH\">In California<\/a> and most other states and cities, <strong>parking means leaving your car<\/strong>, while <strong>standing means moving goods around<\/strong>, and stopping just means not moving your car.  <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We see signs telling us No Standing, No Stopping, and No Parking all the time, but what exactly do they mean?
