That may be the case, but at least one designer believes the new signs could be further improved. Nikki Sylianteng, a Brooklyn-based independent designer, has come up with another redesign that uses fewer words to communicate with drivers, instead relying on a timechart-like visual language to convey its information.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_5904\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myparkingsign.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Redesign.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5904\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5904\" alt=\"the redesigned NYC parking sign\" src=\"https:\/\/www.myparkingsign.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Redesign.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.myparkingsign.com/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Redesign.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.myparkingsign.com/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Redesign-300x240.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-5904\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nikki Sylianteng&#8217;s suggested (and, we might add, very attractive) resdesigns of the classic NYC parking sign. From nikkisylianteng.com.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Sylianteng was moved to create the redesign after receiving one too many parking tickets because of poor signage. \u201cIt shouldn\u2019t have to be this complicated,\u201d she wrote on her blog. All anyone really wants to know from a parking sign, Sylianteng says, is \u201cCan I park here now?\u201d and \u201cUntil what time?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s taken her attempt to answer those questions to the street\u2014literally. Going rogue, the designer has been taping versions of her redesign to official parking signs around the city and asking drivers and pedestrians to let her know what they think of it. The new versions measure four feet tall and display a two-color design, as well as a federally mandated font called\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mutcd.fhwa.dot.gov\/resources\/clearviewdesignfaqs\/\">Clearview<\/a>\u00a0that the city began using in 2010 to replace signs that were in all uppercase\u2014250,900 in all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn the Internet, writing in all caps means you are shouting,\u201d Sadik-Khan has said. \u201cOur new signs can quiet down as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The updated signs \u2014 which numbered 6,300 initially \u2014 were introduced first in midtown Manhattan and then to the Upper East Side, Lower Manhattan, and the Financial District.
