And while we want to be with our kids all the time to guard them against any peril, it is practically impossible, not to mention irrational!

Kids are exposed to danger almost everywhere, but it is on the road that this level of danger increases.

Although appropriate Traffic Signs ,for the safety of children, are installed on practically every road holding a school or a park etc., the risk is not completely eliminated but only reduced. Moreover, these Traffic Signs are only understood by adults driving or on foot. Children unaware of traffic signs are oblivious to any hazard they might encounter on the road.

To keep children safe on road, it is important that adults teach their child the meaning of some of the commonly used Traffic Signs and equip their kids to move responsibly on the road.

Following are some of the Traffic Signs for Kids that you should teach your child.

STOP Sign:

This is the most common and easily recognizable Traffic Sign for Kids. Most children can easily point to a STOP Sign and understand what it stands for. For those who don’t, their parents can teach them! It is important that every child understands this sign because these signs are put at streets where a driver needs to come to a halt. A STOP Sign is usually installed at places like residential areas and playgrounds/ schoolyards or roads where frequent motor accidents are experienced.

School Crossing Sign:

Schools are a place where children spend a considerable part of their day. It is also a place where they are encouraged to do things on their own which mean risks may come up. Crossing a street is one of those risks that a child has to learn how to do safely.

School Crossing Signs are central to the safety of both the drivers and pedestrians and in our case, small kids. Since these signs are so important for the safety of children on roads, it’s only logical that you teach your little ones what these signs are meant for and what they look like. The next time you drop off or pick up your child from school, give him/her some practical lessons on the right way to cross a street and the side of the street they should walk on.

Slow- Children At Play Sign:

A child’s safety is not a matter of child’s play! Streets near playgrounds can become a spot for automobile accidents if necessary precautions are not taken. Signage ensure that kids are out of harm’s way while playing.

Slow-Children at Play Signs can be commonly found in areas in proximity to playgrounds or schoolyards. It is advisable that you teach your child how and where to spot these kinds of road signs and what they mean.

Children should also be taught to be careful around play areas. As a parent, you should provide close supervision while your child is at play and ask him/her not to run outside a playground or a schoolyard for any reason.

Seat Belt- Buckle Up Sign:

Child’s safety is on every parent’s mind especially when they’re moving on the road in a motor vehicle. Understanding and obeying a Seat Belt Sign is not only required of adults but children too.

Teach your little ones how to spot these kinds of signs and what they imply. Parents should always ask their kids to wear a seat belt whenever they are traveling by a car or motor vehicle. You’d be pleasantly surprised to see your child reminding you to buckle up the next time you’re on the road!

This Traffic Sign for Kids (shown above) is the first step towards helping your child become a responsible driver when s(he) grows up.

When Parents follow Traffic Signs, Kids imitate!

Parents are a role model for their little kids who imitate everything their parents do, even when it’s following or not following Traffic Signs and Traffic Rules.

Practice before you start to preach!

Always follow Traffic Safety Rules and Traffic Signs yourself to set a good example for your children.

Look both ways every time you cross a street.

Always wear a seat belt and ensure your child is wearing one too.

Pick the safest route while dropping your kid off to school.
